The Last Gospel of the Pagan Babies is a gay coming-of-age tale set in Lexington, Kentucky, a Southern town where few believed this could happen.

Filmmaker Jean Donohue unravels the story of an underground gay and gender bending community, the closeted Old South homosexual society through to the gay liberation of the 60s and 70s, and the gripping fear that punctuated the HIV-AIDS epidemic of the 1980s. Told through images, film and voices of The Pagan Babies—a group of artists and drag queens who set out to challenge society with Guerilla Theatre interventions—this fascinating documentary is about an unbroken 150 year lineage of outrageous Southern gay culture with its roots in the American Civil War.
