Reminding us that truth can be stranger than fiction, The Idol follows the remarkable story of Assaf’s journey from a refugee camp in Gaza, through to his audition in Egypt and his crowning victory in Beirut that stirred the dreams, hearts and aspirations of people around the world. The latest feature by celebrated director Hany-Abu Assad (whose previous two features Paradise Now and Omar both earned foreign language Oscar nominations), The Idol is the first feature to be (partially) filmed on location in Gaza in decades and is sure to inspire and delight.
