The Young at Heart Culture Club is hosting a special screening of the English comedy Pride at Erskineville Town Hall in celebration of International Human Rights Day.
It’s the Summer of 1984 in Britain. Margaret Thatcher is in power and the National Union of Mineworkers (NUM) is on strike. At the Gay Pride March in London, a group of gay and lesbian activists decide to raise money to support the families of striking miners. But there’s a problem. The union is embarrassed to receive their support. Based on true events, this 2014 comedy drama tells the extraordinary story of how two wholly different communities eventually come together for a common cause.
“Pride offers all the virtues we expect from an English comedy. It’s dry, surprising, compassionate, politically savvy, emotionally rewarding and stacked to the gills with great actors doing solid work.” – The Sydney Morning Herald
