Fotograf is a feature film based on the world-famous Czech photographer Jan Saudek (Karel Roden), an artist of extraordinary talent, spontaneity and passion. The film explores how these qualities brought him fame and rejection, love and betrayal, loneliness and crowds of admirers.
The subjects of his photographs are often women—daughters, wives, mistresses, girlfriends and intellectual admirers—some selflessly loving and devoted, others cheated and lovelorn, and some sharing the delight of his tumultuous life. His early photography is noted for its evocation of his childhood in a concentration camp on the Czech Polish border.
“The story is peppered with humor, because our hero has an abundantly endowed sense of humour,” says director Irena Pavlásková. “The film uncovers the secret of Jan’s work, submerges us into the bizarre and evocative world of the women who surrounded him.”
This passionate, witty, and provocative film will be followed by the Opening Night Party from 9pm. Tickets are $35, and include drinks, fingerfood and live entertainment.
