Since 1993, Tropfest has hosted one of the largest live audience for short films in the country, as a free, outdoor festival.

It all started with a man, a cafe and one simple idea: to create a platform for talented filmmakers and a new wave of storytelling voices.

Responsible for launching some of Australia’s most notable film and TV careers. Tropfest’s purpose has been simple: to create platforms for filmmakers to generate new content & share their stories. Each year the Festival delivers a raft of programs that encourage emerging talent to participate in the film industry. Events include Tropfest, TropJr, TropTalks and more, which form part of our multiday celebration of Australian film.

One of the most unique aspects of the competition is that every film must be made specifically for Tropfest. The intention is to encourage filmmakers to get better at the craft of filmmaking, by making more unique content. This is achieved through having an annual Tropfest Signature Item (TSI) that must be included in their film.

This year’s TSI is PINEAPPLE!

For its 25th Anniversary, Tropfest will premier it’s 16 finalist films in the beautiful and iconic Parramatta Park!

The 25th Anniversary event is set to be bigger and better than ever.
