The Iranian Film Festival Australia is the only nation-wide Australian festival dedicated to Iranian cinema. Contemporary Iranian cinema is one of the world’s most exhilarating national film cultures. The festival showcases a diverse range of the best and most interesting of current Iranian cinema, introducing Iranian culture to other Australians and promoting better cultural understanding.
IFFA is an independent non-political, non-aligned and non-religious private organisation run by Anne Démy-Geroe and Armin Miladi. The festival commenced in 2011, opening with A Separation, straight from the film’s Berlin Golden Bear win and before its Oscar win. It expanded from three to five Australian capital cities in 2012, whilst 2014 saw the expansion to five Australian capital cities.
In 2016, Sydneysiders can experience the wonders of Iranian cinema at Event Cinemas Top Ryde and Dendy Opera Quays between 10 – 13 Novemer. For other cities, full program and ticketing check the festival website.
